Time sure passes quickly these days – it’s been 16 weeks since little Violet made her arrival.
Things are going well. Violet started taking a bottle over the weekend (finally!), and has started rolling over from her stomach to her back. She’s still a great night sleeper (knock on wood!), but not much of a napper unless she’s sleeping on someone or in her stroller. She’s not a fan of being in the car unfortunately (she screams most of the ride), but thankfully we live in a very walkable area so our car trips are minimal. As for me, my strength is returning but running is still a work in progress. My average heart rate is 25-30 beats per minute lower on my runs now than it was when I did my first walk-run workout back in January so my aerobic fitness has improved dramatically since then. However, my current easy pace is around 1.5 to 2 minutes per mile slower than what it used to be so I still have a ways to go before I’m back to my old running self. Since I’m not training for anything but rather running just to run this is to be expected. All of my runs are still between 30 and 45 minutes. In some ways I feel like a new runner again – just enjoying running and not thinking about going faster or longer. I toyed with the idea of signing up for the Marine Corps Marathon lottery (my local fall marathon) but decided against it as I’m not feeling the pull of long distance racing yet. I think that if I do start racing again in the fall I would rather do some shorter distance races. When I was pregnant I certainly wouldn’t have predicted I’d feel this way right now. I thought I’d be chomping at the bit to get training again! I assume I will at some point (and I’ll have more interesting workouts to report when I do!) but until then running for fun is my current plan.
