Another Snow Day Workout

We had another snow day here in DC on Monday so that meant even though my husband worked from home that day I ended up doing another treadmill run – bummer! To keep from getting bored with all this treadmill running I’ve been doing some interval runs and some hill runs. A lot of people will do intervals on the treadmill but forget that treadmills can be great tools for hill running, especially if you live in a flat area. Hills are great for building leg strength and when done at a hard effort can help improve your VO2 max. I did a 30 minute hill run on Monday that I thought I’d share. I started at my easy pace and kept it there the whole time, just increasing my effort by increasing the incline rather than the belt speed. The run includes 3 “hills” that last 3 minutes each. If you are up to the challenge you can make the run harder by either adding another hill or two or by starting at a faster pace and holding it throughout the workout. Happy treadmill running!
