Cardio Workout of the Week: “Hiking” Indoors
|August 14, 2013||Posted by The Fit Scoop under Workouts|
One of my go-to workouts now that I’m 27 weeks pregnant and sticking with non-impact and low-impact activities is “indoor hiking”, a.k.a. walking on an incline on the treadmill. It can make me sweat and get my heart rate pounding like I’m running, but without the discomfort that comes from running with extra weight and a baby bump. This week’s cardio workout of the week is an example of how to “hike” indoors. Walking on an incline is a great way to get an intense workout that works your leg muscles without stressing your joints. Whether you are looking for a new mode of cardio or to give you legs a break from running, consider giving walking on an incline a try. Climb away!
Note: to ensure you get the most out of your workout, try to avoid holding onto the handrails during the workout as it reduces your energy output.
Make it easier: Keep the inclines the same but walk at a slower speed.
Make it harder: Keep the inclines the same but walk at a faster speed.
