I’m a Runner Again

Today’s workout my first with no walking – just 30 minutes of continuous running. I’m finally a runner again! Here’s how I progressed over the last 3.5 weeks from walk/running to running:
I felt this plan worked well as I never felt any soreness or fatigue and ended every workout feeling like I could have done more. Overall I feel pretty good running again! I think I’ll likely stick with 30 minute runs for the next couple of weeks, both for time reasons with Violet and to make sure I don’t do too much too soon after my surgeries. I’ve done core work after each run and am feeling like I’m getting some of my core strength back. I’ve also just started incorporating some body-weight strength work like pushups, lunges, squats, and pull-ups (well, assisted pull-ups at this point!). I’m weaker now than I was when I was pregnant, but it will come back eventually…
In other running related news, check out this really interesting post from a well-regarded coach on whether to have cut back weeks or just build recovery into your weekly running schedule. I’m personally in the sustained training camp rather than the planned cut-back week camp.
Have a great weekend and happy running!
