Week 24: Shopping, Sleep, and Special Treatment!

So another week down and only 16 more to go (hopefully not more than that!). Yesterday was my 24-week appointment and things are looking good. I’m measuring right on track and my little girl has a strong heartbeat of 160. Maybe she’ll be a runner 🙂
Last weekend I went on my first maternity clothes shopping trip. I usually wear dresses all summer long, and all my pre-pregnancy empire-waisted dresses are working well as my belly starts to show more. I went shopping mainly to try to find some jeans so that once it cools off here I will have some pants that fit. I managed to find several pairs at Macy’s (all were on sale!). While I was shopping I had my first experience where someone gave me special treatment because I’m pregnant. I had about 10 pairs of pants with me to try on and the dressing room monitor was strictly enforcing the “6 at a time only” rule with everyone. However, when she saw that I was pregnant she let me take them all in at once. I could get used to getting special treatment! I could also get used to stretchy panel pants – they are super comfortable.
Workouts are still going strong. I’m still managing 6 days a week of cardio and 3 days of strength training, including this tough workout this past week. I’ve discovered I’m really enjoying spinning while pregnant. I really like that so far I don’t feel any different doing it than I did pre-pregnancy (unlike running or other impact exercises where the bump and extra weight can be more noticeable). It also lets me get in an intense workout while escaping the hot and humid weather here in D.C.
My only real pregnancy complaint at this point is that I don’t sleep well most nights. I end up having to get up once or twice to use the bathroom and many times I can’t fall back asleep for a while. At least the upside of this is that I’ll be used to broken sleep once the baby comes!
