Week 28: Gestational Diabetes Testing and Stranger Encounters

Happy Friday! Here I am at week 28 – the belly is steadily growing, and I’m finally starting to feel like time is passing at a normal speed (it felt REALLY slow the first half of my pregnancy).
I had my 28 week appointment on Wednesday which included the gestational diabetes screening test.
How can a sugar drink taste so yucky? I’ll get the official results in a few days. There was a woman in the office doing the 3 hour fasting test at the same time. I really hope that I don’t have to take that one – it looks miserable! My checkup went well. I’m measuring right on schedule and we got to hear the baby’s heartbeat. Since I’m 28 weeks, I’ll now start going in every two weeks instead of four. The end is getting closer!
One thing I’ve noticed this week is that having a pregnant belly is definitely a conversation starter for people. I’ve had more strangers talk to me recently than I ever have before. People ask when I’m due and tell me their own pregnancy and child stories. Most are really positive, but yesterday a woman at my gym told me that I “have no idea what I’m in for” and that having her current child made her “most definitely not want more children.” I wasn’t really sure how to respond so I just awkwardly nodded and tried to change the subject. Most people focus on how great it is to have kids and how even the worst experiences of pregnancy are worth it, so thankfully my positive interactions have outnumbered the negative ones.
Workouts this week were similar to last week – nothing exciting to report other than that I managed another week still feeling really good. My doctor said I can keep up my current fitness routine to the end as long as I’m feeling well. A man at the gym told me his wife was able to workout up until the day she gave birth for both of their kids so I hope I have a similar experience!
Other than my empire waist dresses I’ve fully transitioned to maternity clothes. The elastic on some of the pants don’t hold them up very well (maybe they will when the belly is bigger?) but thankfully I discovered a solution – a bella band. The band is snugger than a lot of the bands on my pants so I use it in addition to the one on my pants and the fit feels much more secure. It is going to be hard to go back to regular-waisted pants in the future – the elastic ones are so comfortable 🙂
This weekend I have family in town, and it is my baby shower. I’ll be back on Monday with pictures. Have a great weekend!
