Week 32: My Belly is Growing but My Stomach is Shrinking

Happy Friday! So I think these updates will be fun to look back on in a few years, but I’m wondering if the weekly countdown is contributing to how long pregnancy feels. I still have 8 weeks left?!? But I’m ready to meet our little girl now! OK, whining done…moving on…
This past week was good, but I’m definitely feeling rounder by the day. Though her kicking is getting stronger and slightly uncomfortable at times, it’s still really fun to feel her dancing around. My stomach is definitely feeling squished. I think I need to split my meals up in two soon because having one larger meal is getting uncomfortable. I’ve also noticed that my feet are starting show signs of swelling if I sit for long periods of time. I guess I have a reason to wear my running compression socks again!
Last weekend we had a baby class double-header: a class on infant care and a class on infant safety and CPR. The classes were very helpful in discussing what things will be like in the weeks after she is born. We got to practice changing diapers, swaddling, and doing CPR. So do I feel ready now to care for a baby??? Not sure yet 😛
On the workout front, things are about the same. I’m still very grateful that I’ve been able to stay as active as I have with minimal modifications. I did my usual cardio (spinning, elliptical, and inclined walking) and three strength training sessions this week. An added bonus was my husband and I went hiking on Sunday as part of our anniversary celebration. My workouts where I walk on an incline on the treadmill were useful on the steep climbs!
I’m really missing running and cycling outdoors now that the beautiful fall weather is here. I’m making sure to get out and enjoy it by doing some nice walks with my dog, but it still isn’t the same as lacing up my shoes and going for a run (though walking with this little guy really is a treat!)
Despite missing the activities I can no longer do, one thing that has been nice about pregnancy workouts is the lack of a training plan. Prior to pregnancy, I was usually training for a race and had specific workouts to perform each week. Now my only “plan” is to stay as active as I comfortably can for as long as I can. Though I do miss the feeling of accomplishment that comes from nailing hard workouts and seeing progress, the break from structured training has been surprisingly nice. I’m probably only able to feel this way because the end is in sight 🙂
I’m working on a post about the core exercises I’m doing during pregnancy which I will try to post over the weekend. I think it has been really helpful in helping me avoid any back pain and round ligament pain. Be sure to check back for it!
