Week 40: No Baby Yet

Baby girl hasn’t arrived yet – no real surprise. Though I daydreamed throughout pregnancy that she would be a little early or on time, deep down I had a feeling that she wouldn’t be. My due date was the 13th so we’re 5 days past due at this point. From what I’ve read the average first-time mom delivers around 41 weeks and 1 day so I guess I’m not really “late” by that standard.
So I’ve found that the key to keeping sane when you’ve gone past your due date is distraction. So far so good – we did some shopping this weekend, and we had a three night movie marathon. We watched the first Thor movie one night, the Avengers the next, and finally went to see the new Thor movie in the theater. We tried for the first time a new movie theater where the seats reclined – perfect for a 40+ week pregnant lady! It really was quite amazing to watch a movie from these seats. I may not be able to go back to watching movies in a regular theater after this. The added bonus was that the ticket price was the same as for a regular theater!
I’ve been keeping up with the workouts too. My pool membership expired so I’m just going to spinning classes and walking on an incline for cardio, and I’m still strength training. At this point I’m hoping that the workouts will put me into labor, but so far no such luck. I’m getting a lot of comments at the gym from people about how they can’t believe I’m still working out past my due date. I honestly still feel pretty good despite being uber-pregnant. My doctor has encouraged me to stay active as long as I can, and I definitely feel more energized when I exercise than when I don’t. Plus it helps serve as another distraction, which I certainly need at this point!
Well I’m off to take the dog on a long walk – wish me luck that it gets things started 😉
